NSWM Webinar: A license for Macro Practice
September 21, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am PDT
The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) defines the purpose of licensing and certification in social work as a means of identifying standards for the safe professional practice of social work. Although most social work students are interested in obtaining direct practice roles after graduation, what about those who do not? Do macro social workers need licenses? In 1997, the Network for Social Work Management (NSWM) developed its first set of Human Services Management Competencies in an effort to define the skills needed to function as a manager. Wimpfheimer (2008) describes recognition of these competencies as a first step toward improving service delivery.
To address the present day needs of macro social work students who desire to be managers, NSWM has established a Human Services Management Certificate Program. The program which was piloted with 6 schools of social work in Spring 2015 has grown to 18 university partners. Over 600 certificates have been administered to graduating MSW students in a little over a two-year time span .
This information session will address the Network’s management competencies, review results from our 18 current partner audits, as well as explain next steps for schools interested in joining NSWM as a certificate partner.
