Adrienne Scavera is the Director of Training and Outreach for Mental Health Association of Oregon (MHAO), one of Oregon’s oldest and largest peer-run organizations. She is proud to have achieved her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and training as a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Facilitator. Currently, Adrienne is a member of the Oregon Health Authority’s Peer Delivered Services Core Team and the Unity Center for Behavioral Health Advisory Council in addition to serving as a subject matter expert for the Traditional Health Worker Commission’s Training Evaluation and Metrics Program Scoring Committee. An experienced trainer, Adrienne has delivered workshops locally and nationally. Adrienne also has the privilege to supervise and educate social work students as a Social Work Field Instructor.

In her work, she prioritizes the experience of individuals as the experts on their own lives. Over the years, Adrienne has worked in research, direct service, program development, management, training, and with non-profits, educational institutions, and peer-run organizations. She enjoys writing about herself in third person, well-organized spaces, and friendly animals.

Hi, my name is Cassandra E. Louis. In 2008, I received a B.A in Sociology from SUNY Stony Brook, and my JD from Massachusetts School of Law in 2015. I am two semesters away from earning my MSW from Yeshiva University Wurzweiler School of Social Work.

My professional experience/trainings is predominately in Child Welfare working with at-risk youth and families. Now, I find myself trying to find a leadership/management career that encompasses my passion for law and social work.

After completing my BSW at the University of Vermont, I joined the Peace Corps and moved to Botswana for two years. It was there that I developed a love of international social work and working with communities in need around the world. I returned to the United States to complete my MSW at Columbia University with a focus on social enterprise administration. Soon after graduating, I began volunteering at TEEEM, an international nonprofit focused on supporting international communities, and have recently transitioned into the Executive Director role.

Lauren Hyre is a professional social worker with direct service, clinical, and community-based experience in public, private, and non-profit sectors. Lauren has worked with diverse populations including refugees, mental health, justice-involved, homeless, and older adults. Currently, she works as a Human Services Manager with the City of Tempe’s Human Services Department Deferred Prosecution and Re-Entry Programs. Lauren is passionate about public service and a champion for social justice, and has dedicated her life to advocating for marginalized populations. Lauren is interested in issues related to women’s rights, health care access, affordable housing, economic security, restorative justice and criminal justice reform, and civil rights. Lauren received a Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Dakota, and is currently a Licensed Master Social Worker through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. Lauren was appointed as a member of Tempe’s Veterans Commission in 2017, and was a recipient of the 2017-2018 Network for Social Work Management Policy Fellowship. Outside of her social work practice, Lauren enjoys practicing yoga, riding horses, and spending time with her family and her animals.

I had my second internship with at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). I co-coordinated the voter registration campaign, Unlock the Vote. I also assisted the Executive Director in evaluating and monitoring local county jails for filing potential lawsuits, advocating for opportunities to reduce mass incarceration, and increasing the use of alternatives to incarceration. My passion is to disturb the status quo of the juvenile justice system through youth empowerment and promoting financial literacy.

Siying “Shelley” Wang is an Associate Director of the Charity Development Department at Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, an international humanitarian organization founded by Dharma Master Cheng Yen in 1966. Shelley is in charge of developing nationwide charity projects through partnerships with community and government organizations, coordinating mental health-related training, and assisting volunteers in providing charity services in the community.

Besides her job at Tzu Chi, Shelley also volunteers weekly as a Crisis Phone/Chat Counselor at the Suicide Prevention Crisis Line and Disaster Distress Helpline.

Shelley graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor degree in Television, Radio and Film, and University of Southern California with a Master degree in Social Work. Shelley has been licensed as an Associate Clinical Social Worker in the State of California since June 2017.

I currently reside in Southern California, just outside of Los Angeles. I am an MSW student attending the online MSW program at the University of New England. I am in my first year, preparing to take my final foundation course. I work as a hospice social worker. I am also a board member for a women’s sober living program, and I am site supervisor volunteer for the Los Angeles Homeless Count. I am a single mother of two sons. I just turned 49 so I am a late starter in my pursuit of my masters! I don’t focus too much on that because I believe my life’s journey was the intended path that lead me to this point, so I embrace it! I am honored to be working in the field of social work and find it to be an honor. One that comes with many challenges but none that I am unwilling to face. With this attitude and approach, I believe a mentor will help prepare me for my future as a professional social worker.
